Kitten season is here!

With spring time comes an increase in the cat population, as kittens are being born in record numbers and they need help.  The local area Houston shelters are beginning to become overwhelmed with these helpless little ones.

So what is the cure?

Prevention is the only answer, spay and neuter.  Did you know that over 70% of all cats entering shelters in the United States are killed?  It does not matter how cute, how fluffy, or how sweet, the euthanansia needle does not discriminate. People acting responsibly and making the conscious decision to prevent unwanted litters in the first place, is the only true answer to the problem.

The most comprehensive study to date indicates that 72% of all cats entering these facilities are killed. Just 23% are adopted, and only 2% are reunited with their owners.

Spend a couple of hours on a Saturday in the lobby of any municipal shelter and you will see for yourself the extent of the problem.  Become involved, learn about spaying and neutering benefits, encourage your neighbors to TNR the strays they find.

If you do not get involved who will?  Why should they have to die because people are too irresponsible to care?
